I felt compelled to write about why I believe striving just for aesthetics is never enough! All you need to do is have a quick scroll through Instagram with almost a million #inprogress or #workinprogress pictures it’s pretty clear that a lot of people are constantly striving to do better. I’m the first to admit that I too want to do better, eat better, look better, just be better! Unfortunately I think the downside to that is, it confirms what we continually tell ourselves… That we are not enough, not thin enough, rich enough, good enough, just not enough! What a sad state of reality that is for so many people, I know for a fact I’m not alone in this.
Which leads onto why I think dieting for aesthetic reasons is flawed. It keeps you in the future, like your life will be better 10 pounds from now. It keeps you longing for the ‘what if’ instead of living in the now!
I have been on both ends of the spectrum, both overweight and underweight so I have a little insight.
If there’s one thing I have learnt from my time trying to “improve” myself is that the goal post will always move. I’m going to say that again, the goal post will always move. I have experienced this myself and seen this time and time again! If vanity is your driver you will never feel enough.
You cannot punish yourself into health!
Health needs to come from a place of self-care not from punishment. So what are you doing today to take care of yourself?
